YOUth Decide is a board game created by Students Against Nicotine as a way to empower youth to take a STAND against Nicotine Addiction. The object of the game is to allow young people to first-handedly see the tobacco industry's manipulative marketing tactics. A lot of times, issues do not matter to us unless they impact us directly. The issue at hand is that the tobacco industry specifically targets certain groups of people, and those people suffer more of tobacco's burden as a result.
We don't smoke that sh**. We just sell it. We reserve the right to smoke for the young, the poor, the black, and the stupid.
- RJ Reynolds Tobacco Executive, 1978
The smoking patterns that currently exist among different populations are no coincidence, and that is what Students Against Nicotine wants to demonstrate through YOUth Decide. Each game includes one bi-fold game board and storage box, a six-sided dice cube, six multi-colored player pieces, three packs of cards (one pack of Identification Cards, one of Situation Cards, and one of Trivia Cards), Instructions, Source Sheet, and a Facilitated Discussion Guide. The suggested uses for YOUth Divide include implementing it into classroom curriculum, playing it at youth summits, rallies, or trainings, or using it in conjunction with Students Against Nicotine's Toolkit Curriculum. Though not available yet, YOUth Decide will be available in 2019 nationwide.
